Let Them Eat Cake

In these times of economic hardship, political uncertainty, and social upheaval, the UNLV Barrick Museum accentuates the positive with an exhibition celebrating two of life’s great pleasures: cake and art. Let Them Eat Cake collects depictions of confectionery delight -- humorous, deadpan, realistic, abstract, and downright delicious -- by 11 artists from across the Las Vegas Valley and beyond. Artists included:

Jessica Carnford, Camden Coxson, Ed Davis, Melissa Eder, Laura Henkel, Aysha Kambestad, Myra Laws, Jenel Lawson, Lorraine Leslie, Salley Maddox Benoit Sawyer, and Erin Whitman

An opening reception will be held on Sunday, October 16, the 218th anniversary of Marie Antoinette’s beheading at the hands of anti-cake activists. The event will run 6pm to 8pm and will feature cupcakes compliments of Retro Bakery and Caked Las Vegas accompanied by milk provided by Anderson Dairy.
