89XXXhibition: A Reconnaissance into Las Vegas Community

Explore the many communities that make up Las Vegas at the UNLV Barrick Museum. Organized in partnership with Yelp.com, the juried exhibition “89XXXhibition: A Reconnaissance into Las Vegas Community” presents 22 local artists’ interpretations of the communities where they live, work, and play, celebrating the diversity of the Las Vegas Valley. The show opens May 20 and will run until July 9.

The exhibition marks a unique collaboration between the museum and web-based Yelp. “For Yelp, supporting the local community goes hand in hand with providing a spot for people to discover fabulous Vegas businesses, and the programming at the Barrick does so much to foster the cultural and community spirit of our town,” says Misti Yang, Yelp’s Las Vegas Community Manager. “I knew together we could create something that would shine a big light on both our community and art.”

To celebrate the show’s opening, Yelp is sponsoring an opening reception at the museum, featuring entertainment, food from local vendors, including The Lunch Box and Rubios and cocktails from Ellis Island Brewery and SKYY Vodka. The event will take place on Friday, May 20th, from 7-9pm at the museum and is free and open to the public (Yelp registration needed). RSVP is required at http://bit.ly/89xxxhibition, where visitors can also find more information about the event.
